About Yokohama Hakkeijima Marina Yacht Sail Fabric
Yokohama Hakkeijima Marina is used as a base for practice and competitions by the university's yacht club, which holds yacht experience programs as part of its educational programs.As an ocean-related facility, the club is also actively involved in activities to protect the Earth, such as reducing marine debris.
Sails are an essential part of a yacht, which moves forward using the power of the wind. The sails of a yacht that has been loved and used for a long time exposed to the sea breeze are replaced with new sails as part of regular maintenance.
The sails of yachts that have been used for practice and competitions have changed over time, such as losing their water repellency and fading due to the effects of salt. Although they are reused in the marina, there are so many of them that they have no choice but to discard some of them.
In order to further enhance Yokohama Hakkeijima Marina's efforts towards the SDGs, Ace Luggage, a travel-related company, is also contributing as part of its environmental efforts by reusing the sails of this beloved yacht that had reached the end of its life, and remaking them into upcycled items.
